An outdoor performance using DIY photoacoustic instruments and a two channel video.
The instruments generate sounds using solar panels, light, DC motors and perforated discs. DC motors are used to rotate the discs and generate various frequencies depending on the amount of holes in the discs and speed of the motors. More sounds can be generated by overlapping and moving the rotating discs. The sound is generated by the solar panels that “see” the shadows of the moving discs and transform the moving light into a sound signal.
The performance lasted around 3 hours. During a part of the performance visitors were invited to try the instruments themselves. The performance was filmed and videos and sounds recorded were used to create a 7 minute sound and video installation. The two channel video installation was a part of the media art festival NOVA exhibition in Galateca Gallery, Bucharest.
